Introduction – Indonesia’s Fertilizer Market: A Quantitative Overview

Indonesia is more than just a sprawling archipelago—it’s an agricultural powerhouse. When it comes to fertilizer, Indonesia holds a firm position in the global export arena, significantly contributing to the supply of both organic and chemical fertilizers across Asia, Africa, and beyond. With a strong combination of natural resources and growing production capabilities, the country is quickly becoming a go-to hub for sourcing high-quality fertilizers.

In 2024 alone, Indonesia exported over 3.2 million metric tons of various fertilizer types, generating an estimated $1.4 billion USD in revenue. These impressive numbers underline not only the country’s production capacity but also its growing reliability as an international supplier.

If you’re a buyer or procurement manager, diving into the fertilizer market without data is like sailing without a compass. This is why platforms like Freshdi are revolutionizing B2B sourcing. Their integrated tools offer market insights, real-time RFQ trends, and supplier verification—all of which help businesses make smart, data-driven decisions.

Deep Dive – Key Production, Export Statistics & Market Signals

Indonesia’s fertilizer production capacity spans the full spectrum—nitrogen-based fertilizers (like urea), phosphate fertilizers, potassium blends, and increasingly, organic and bio-fertilizers. The government, through state-owned enterprises, has historically dominated the sector. But over the last five years, independent and private manufacturers have significantly ramped up export volumes.

Here are some notable statistics from early 2025:

  • Urea Fertilizer: 1.6 million MT exported (primarily to India, Vietnam, and the Philippines)
  • Organic Fertilizer: 480,000 MT exported, with rising demand from Gulf countries
  • Total Fertilizer Export Value: $1.4 billion USD
  • Top Export Regions: Southeast Asia, South Asia, and North Africa

Now, how does this align with what buyers are searching for?

Platforms like Freshdi offer a revealing lens into buyer behavior. The number of RFQs (Request for Quotes) for organic and eco-friendly fertilizers has surged by 38% in the first half of 2025, indicating a clear pivot toward sustainability. These signals mirror export data trends and validate the need for agility in supplier selection.

Market Navigation – Statistical Trends, Price Insights & Export Dynamics

Navigating the fertilizer market in Indonesia isn’t just about picking the biggest name—it’s about understanding the ebb and flow of supply, demand, and pricing dynamics.

What’s Trending?

  • Organic Fertilizers are on the rise, especially in Middle Eastern markets where sustainable agriculture is gaining traction.
  • NPK Combinations are seeing steady demand in rice-producing nations like Vietnam and Thailand.
  • Biofertilizers are fast becoming a niche favorite, particularly among greenhouse and hydroponic farms.

Price Dynamics to Watch

Historically, fertilizer pricing in Indonesia follows predictable seasonal patterns:

  • Q1 (Jan–Mar): Higher prices due to pre-planting demand
  • Q2–Q3 (Apr–Sep): Prices stabilize as supply catches up
  • Q4 (Oct–Dec): Discount cycles begin, good for bulk purchases

Looking back at Freshdi’s pricing archive for 2024, buyers who made purchases in August–September saved up to 14% compared to peak season rates. That’s a big win for strategic planners.
