En43b ASTM A510 Carbon Spring Steel

EN43B is a British standard for carbon spring steel. It is a low-alloy steel known for its excellent combination of toughness and flexibility, making it suitable for a wide range of spring applications. EN43B steel typically contains around 0.60-0.70% carbon and small amounts of other elements such as manganese, silicon, and phosphorus.

This type of steel is commonly used for various types of springs, including torsion springs, tension springs, and flat springs. It offers good strength and durability, as well as good fatigue resistance. EN43B steel can be heat-treated to achieve different hardness levels and improve its mechanical properties.

EN43B Carbon spring steel which is supplied in round bar, hexagon, flat,  and also as spring steel plate and sheet. The plate can be flame cut to your requirements with normalizing recommended  for this spring steel grade. The bar can be cut to your required lengths. Spring steel plate and sheet can be flame cut  or guillotine cut to your requirements. Spring steel strip is available in coil, slit and cut to length.

Spring steel, as its name suggests,  is most commonly used in the manufacture of springs. When hardened and tempered (as supplied,  or heat-treated by the customer) it offers excellent spring characteristics.

EN43B is used commonly for many general engineering applications. Typical applications include springs, shafts, bushes, crankshafts, screws, sickles, axes, knives, woodworking drills, and hammers.

Heat treatment:
Heat treatment temperatures, including the rate of heating, cooling, and soaking times, etc. will vary due to factors such as the shape and size of each steel component. Other considerations during the heat treatment process include the type of furnace, quenching medium, and workpiece transfer facilities.

Hardening:
Temper the EN43B spring steel component immediately after quenching whilst tools still hand warm. Re-heat to the tempering temperature then soak for one hour per 25 millimeters of a total thickness (2 hours minimum) Cool the steel in the air. For most applications tempering will be between 550-660°C.
