Compass CM-2 quick-release manways extend into the tank, forming a watertight seal using a standard ASME flanged, dished cap and a user-replaceable gasket. The handwheel mechanism activates exclusively when the container is fully drained, enabling rapid entry in just seconds—no bolts to remove or tools required. Meets OSHA standards for permit-required confined spaces.Model CM-2 manways offer direct access to the sides of both new and existing stainless or carbon steel tanks, whether bolted or welded. Every CM-2 unit is custom-built to match your exact needs, such as material type, wall gauge, tank curvature, hydrostatic pressure, and appropriate sealing for the stored substance.
For areas where welding is not allowed, obtain a custom mounting flange ring aligned with your exact requirements (Model CM-2P - Steel Wall Tank). These rings are formed to match the tank’s curvature and secured to the manway sleeve for bolted assemblies in steel tanks. The unit supports special configurations and may include sightglass and sampling fittings as needed.
Every manway includes an OSHA-compliant lockout/tagout mechanism to stop unintended opening or closing. Due to the tank’s internal pressure pushing the lid firmly against the seal, the cover remains securely closed whenever the contents exceed the manway’s level. Additionally, a Security Cover is available that fits over the outside of the manway, locking the handwheel and hinge mechanism in place for added protection.
