Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica), also known as Arabian coffee, Arabian bush coffee, or mountain coffee, is a species of the genus Coffea. It is believed to be the first coffee species to be cultivated, and is the dominant cultivar, representing approximately 60% of global coffee production. Another widely cultivated coffee variety is robusta coffee (C. canephora) (less acidic, more bitter, and more caffeinated than arabica).

1. Shape and Size

The beans are usually green before roasting and turn dark brown after roasting.

One of the main advantages of Arabica coffee is its complex flavor. It tends to be lighter, with a balanced acidity and distinctive floral or fruity aromas.

Some Arabica varieties even have hints of chocolate, nuts, or fruit. This is why Arabica coffee is often considered a premium quality coffee.

3. Caffeine Content

Arabica coffee has a lower caffeine content than Robusta, around 1-1.5%. This makes it more stomach-friendly and less bitter, making it suitable for those who are sensitive to caffeine.

4. Sugar and Acid Content

Arabica contains higher levels of natural sugars and acids, which contribute to a sweeter and fresher taste. This combination creates a balance of flavors that is difficult to find in other types of coffee.
