Basmati 1509 is a high-yielding, early-maturing variety of Basmati rice that has become a major player in the agricultural market alongside the famous 1121 variety. While often compared to 1121, it has distinct advantages for both farmers and consumers.
- Shorter Maturity: The biggest advantage is its growth cycle. It matures in about 115–120 days, compared to the 145–150 days required for Basmati 1121. This allows farmers to better manage crop rotations.
- Grain Length: The uncooked grain length is roughly 8.2 mm to 8.4 mm. While very long, it has a slightly higher "breakage" rate during milling compared to 1121.
- Cooking Expansion: Upon cooking, the grain elongates significantly (up to 18–20 mm), though it is generally considered slightly less firm than the 1121 variety.
