Chia seeds, scientifically known as Salvia hispanica, are tiny black and white seeds derived from a flowering plant native to Central America. Recognized as a superfood, chia seeds have surged in global popularity due to their rich nutritional profile and versatile culinary uses.

Chia is typically harvested once the flower heads have matured, with seeds carefully dried and cleaned before packaging. The seeds come in two primary varieties based on color—black and white—although their nutritional qualities are quite comparable.

• High in Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Chia seeds are an excellent plant-based source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), promoting heart health.

Export standards often require adherence to food safety regulations such as HACCP and compliance with maximum limits on residual pesticides. Packaging is typically designed to maintain freshness during long-distance transport and storage.

Harvesting and Production Process

Chia cultivation is primarily done in subtropical and tropical climates. The plants mature around 90 to 120 days after sowing. Once flowers dry, seeds are collected by harvesting the seed heads, then mechanically separated, cleaned, and dried to appropriate moisture levels (~8%).
