Dried split ginger

Ginger is the rhizomes or root of the Zingiber Officinale family. Nigeria has two varieties, The Tafin Giwa yellow and Yatsun Biri, black. The former has higher yeild per hectares while the latter has higher monoterprene which gives it strong aroma and pungency. Therefore it is considered in term of higher oil and oleoresine contents. It's important in the global market because if it's strong aroma, pungency, high oil and oleoresine contents. Ginger is harvested as root, machine washed, sliced or split and sun-dried to moisture of 8% to prolong it's shelf life.

Ginger had been used as herbs. It has high medicinal value and have been effective in treatment of some flu.

Physical Specifications

• Moisture Content: 10% – 12% maximum (crucial to prevent molding during transit).
• Impurities / Foreign Matter: 1% – 2% maximum (machine-cleaned and hand-picked).
• Color: Pale/light brown to natural yellowish.
• Size/Cut: Primarily exported as non-peeled, dried split rhizomes.

Chemical Specifications

• Volatile Oil: 1.5% – 4.0% minimum.
• Total Ash: 8% – 9% maximum.
• Acid Insoluble Ash: 2.2% – 2.5% maximum.
• Oleoresin Content: 4% – 6% (often exceeding Indian and Chinese varieties).
• Microbes: Negative.

• Stuffing: Approximately 21 to 24 Metric Tons in a 40-foot High Cube (FCL) container.
• Origin & Sourcing: Major cultivation hubs include the fertile highlands of Kaduna state (the largest producer), as well as Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, and Gombe.
• Compliance: Shipments meet the standard SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary) food safety requirements with zero chemicals or artificial preservatives added.
