A diaphragm coupling consists of several sets of diaphragms (thin stainless steel plates) bolted alternately to two coupling halves. Each set of diaphragms is composed of several stacked plates. Diaphragms are classified as connecting rod type and integral type with different shapes.
The coupling compensates for the relative displacement of the two connected shafts through the elastic deformation of the diaphragms. It is a high-erformance flexible coupling made of metal elastic elements, requiring no lubrication, with a compact structure, high strength, long service life, no rotational backlash, unaffected by temperature and oil contamination, and possessing acid, alkali, and corrosion resistance. It is suitable for shaft transmission in high-temperature, high-speed, and corrosive media environments, and is widely used in shaft transmission of various mechanical devices, such as water pumps (especially high-power and chemical pumps), fans, compressors, hydraulic machinery, petroleum machinery, printing machinery, textile machinery, chemical machinery, mining machinery, metallurgical machinery, aviation (helicopters), and high-speed power transmission systems of ships. After dynamic balancing, its application in high-speed transmission shaft systems is quite common.
It features high mechanical strength, large load-bearing capacity, light weight, small structural size, high transmission efficiency and accuracy, good reliability, and convenient assembly and disassembly.
