Rice husk ash

Rice husk ash is a byproduct mainly from a rice husk fueled power generation facility. Some potential applications of rice husk ash were given in Table 3. High strength concrete and light weight bricks are two rice husk ash based building material substitutions. Production of low cost silica based material is the more common use of rice husk ash. The SiO₂ content of rice husk ash is reported to be around 76.4–97.9% (Moraes et al., 2014). Rice husk ash derived silica can be crystalline or amorphous depending on the combustion temperature. If the temperature is below 700 °C, amorphous silica with high surface area can be produced and if the temperature is above 800 °C, the product will be crystalline. Amorphous silica can be used in the cement, construction and rubber industries whereas crystalline silica can be used for producing steel, ceramics and refractory bricks
