Creating the best possible South African wine is a way of life.

We’re not here to break even. We’re here to break rules. To challenge expectations and inspire more honest, open and spontaneous connections, more often. Connecting people with the best possible South African wine and enriching their enjoyment of what really matters. Celebrating the occasions, the company and the moments that make living so rewarding.

Before our vineyards make grapes, our location makes ideal conditions.

Fertile, temperate, and nourished year-round by the breathtaking Breede River, our vineyards enjoy a special, slightly drier Mediterranean microclimate with the Atlantic Ocean cooling our night-time temperatures. Some refer to it as perfect.

We simply call it home.

Celebrating winemaking as a matter of choice, not chance

The Alvi’s Drift cellar is where we experiment, innovate and dare to be true in living out our passion for winemaking. It’s one place you’ll rarely find us doing what’s expected. We’re too busy doing what we love.

A winery steeped in a century of heritage

Named for the low water bridge our family patriarch Albertus Viljoen van der Merwe commissioned back in 1928, it is here winemaker Alvi van der Merwe crafts his vision for exceptional South African wines.

Alvi’s Drift wines are fortunate to have been recognised internationally for the teamwork and effort we put into creating them. This, along with the enthusiastic feedback we constantly receive from our customers, inspires us to greater heights.
