We are a family that loves the outdoors and simply can’t get enough. We started this business because of our enthusiasm for camping, and a strong desire to bring back customer service to the retail industry. Can you remember the name of the person who sold you your groceries? How about your clothing? What about your car? Retail business have grown to such sizes that there is no longer an owner-customer relationship. Sure as a business we want growth, but we also want to maintain relationships with our customers. I know I want that from the places I shop. It’s hard to gain trust if the person you are dealing with is different every time you have a question. Our philosophy going forward is that senior management will always be primarily responsible for customer service. The financial stuff can be left to the accountants. There are too many financial professionals in the retail industry. They look at a company and see payroll only as an expense that should be tightly regulated and trimmed to maximum efficiency possible. Our view is that those numbers on the payroll report are the actual people that make up our business. They’re not liabilities. They’re assets! Treat them like it and you have one seriously motivated workforce with extreme high morale. High productivity then comes naturally.
