Business Description

Tenuta Santa Maria is rooted in a rich oenological tradition that traces back to the 16th century. Today, brothers Giovanni and Guglielmo Bertani are committed to preserving the winemaking heritage of Verona while also innovating upon the legacy left by their father, the awarded winemaker Gaetano Bertani.

The family contributed in an important way to the development an success of the Valpolicella and Soave wine regions. They were at the forefront of producing and exporting the first modern dry wines and played a key role in establishing the early regional winemakers’ association. Their influence includes the development of the Amarone and the adoption of innovative techniques like the Guyot method.

They are committed to enhancing regional wines through the reintroduction of indigenous rare grape varieties and the use the latest technologies for sustainable, low-intervention practices both in the vineyard and vinification. The wines produced by the winery beautifully showcase the diverse grape varieties and unique terroirs of the region, remaining true to the refined, dry, and harmonious style that has defined them throughout the years. The production takes place across three estates: Arbizzano di Negrar in Valpolicella Classica DOCG, Colognola ai Colli in Soave DOC, and a developing high-elevation project in Valpantena.

Winery and estates are fully owned by Giovanni and Guglielmo Bertani
