ASCON MECHANICAL SPLICINGThe traditional and the most accepted form of Rebar splicing is theconventional system of lapping of the Rebars. Over the past fewdecades, the mechanical splicing systems were developed so as toease congestion of Rebars and to assist in specialized constructionarising due to complex designs and advanced form work systems.The increased complexities in design, advanced modernconstruction techniques, demand for increased speed ofconstruction, and the ever rising steel prices have made thethreaded mechanical splicing system the right choice for theconstruction industryASCON TAPER THREADED RE-BAR COUPLERThe ASCON Tapered Thread coupler is designed to suit majority ofapplications which require the splicing of reinforcement bars. Theends of the rebar are square cut with a chop saw machine and atapered thread is made on the bar to suit the taper threadedcoupler. The sleeve is tightened onto the threaded bar end using awrench and then finally checked with a calibrated torque wrench.ASCON STANDARD COUPLERThe ASCON Standard Tapered Thread coupler is suitable forconnecting two bars of the same diameter, where one bar can berotated. It consists of an internally threaded coupler with two righthand threads which are tapered towards the middle of the coupler.The bar ends are square cut and a tapered thread is cut onto thebar. The couplers are generally fitted on the reinforcing bar in thebar threading shop and the internal threads of the coupler areprotected by plastic end caps. The threaded end of the rebar isprotected by plastic thread protectors known as bar caps.Engagement of the bar within the coupler is simplified by thetapered thread design which aids alignment. The Ascon StandardTapered Thread coupler is designed to meet the requirements ofBS 8110 and to achieve failure loads in excess of 115% of thecharacteristic strength of grade Fe 415 & Fe 500 TMT rebar.
