We offer various interactions with growers, packhouses and industry players in the form of workshops, symposiums and events!

These workshops are held annually in January or February of each year and offered online or face-to-face. They offer insights into postharvest activities that help growers and packhouses.

The IPM & Disease Management workshops are held annually during August and September.

The workshops offer pre-harvest integrated pest and disease management information to assist growers.

The Production workshops are held bi-annually.

These workshops assist in the production aspects for growers.

The symposium is held bi-annually.

The symposium gives detailed and scientific information on the latest industry research. The 12th CRI Citrus Research Symposium will take place from the 18-22nd August 2024.

Every year CRI organizes ad hoc events.

In CRI we have five specialised divisions as well as our administration division, which assist us in executing our mandate towards citrus growers in South Africa.

Citrus research in Southern Africa, largely funded by a levy on export cartons, is divided into three portfolios.

Within each focused portfolio are several programmes on particular problem areas identified by the citrus industry.

The objective of the CIS is to increase the profitability of the Southern African citrus industry, by ensuring that growers are supplied with nursery trees of the highest possible quality made from the best genetic citrus material and free from any harmful pathogens.

The Biosecurity Division in CRI has as its core the responsibility to protect the citrus industry from an ever increasing threat from invasive pests and diseases due to global trends in the movement of people and goods in international trade, and the impact of climate change shifting the dynamics of pests and diseases establishing and spreading into new regions.

The provision of a mechanism for effectively transferring research outputs in appropriate formats to the intended users of the technology has been identified as a key strategic objective in the southern African citrus industry.

CRI’s Extension Division has the objective of cost-effectively coordinating the transfer of knowledge to the Southern African citrus growers and their service agents.

CRI has been commissioned by the Citrus Growers’ Association of Southern Africa to research and develop the technical issues required to enhance access of southern African citrus to world markets.

CRI has its administrative offices in the heart of Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

Citrus is commercially produced for export throughout southern Africa and CRI provides research and technical support to citrus growers and packhouses across the southern African region.
