ABOUT THE Company: GEMSTONES FROM THE EARTH

Gemstones from the Earth celebrates the earths treasures. We currently sell faceted and cabochoned gemstones and the rough from which those two can be made. Founded by Tim Morgan and Michele McMurtry in July of 2009, the company sells material from central and eastern Africa. We will, however, be getting material from elsewhere. We offer to the jeweler, lapidarist and collector good to excellent quality material at competitive wholesale and retail prices. 
Our stones are faceted and cabochoned by professional lapidarists in the US and Sri Lanka who have been cutting for decades. Our rough is bought from miners themselves and the material has been tested physically and chemically before cutting takes place. We work with a highly-respected gemologist and gem dealer, Lee Horowitz, who has been in the business for over twenty years. 
In our introductory collection of faceted and cabochoned gemstones, we have color change garnets from a newly-discovered east African site (January 2009), transparent blue feldspars, brilliant red Namanga garnets, golden tourmalines, peridot, Zambian amethysts, idocrase (vesuvianites), and green tourmalines. The color change garnets were originally thought to be alexandrite because their color change was so much like that of Russian alexandrites. Subsequent testing, however, revealed them to be garnets, selling at one-tenth or less the price per carat of alexandrites. We invite you to browse through our collection.
