The union and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) have reached a tentative agreement on wages, averting a prolonged work stoppage that could have had severe economic consequences. The White House has urged both parties to reach a fair agreement but has not indicated plans to intervene using Taft-Hartley Act powers. This could lead to price increases and potentially impact economic growth. The strike has drawn support from other labor unions, including the Teamsters, who have pledged solidarity with the ILA. The situation remains fluid, and the duration of the strike is uncertain. We will continue to provide updates as they become available. * Important Update: Carriers Impose New Charges Ahead of Potential Maritime Strike Valued Colleagues and Customers, Steamship lines are planning to impose new charges on shippers and non-vessel-operating common carriers in anticipation of a potential strike by the International Longshoremen's Association.
