What is Dichroic Glass? NASA developed dichroic glass for the use in face shields in space suits. Multiple micro-thin layers of different metals (gold, silver, titanium, chromium, aluminium, zirconium, magnesium, silicon) are applied to the surface of the glass. The glass is then kiln fired at extreme temperatures in a vacuum. The metals turn molten and rise to the surface of the glass. The glass then has multiple layers of glass fused over the top in multiple firings done by myself. Certain wave lengths of light will either pass through or be refracted, causing the array of colour that you see in this spectacular jewellery. The result can never be re-created and is different every time. Each piece of Dichroic Jewellery is unique –No two pieces are ever identical, and once purchased they can never be made exactly the same again.
