Schweissdraht Luisenthal GmbH todayWe are a manufacturer of specialty products in the area or welding consumables with an emphasis on wires and rods for gas-shielded arc welding of hardfacings and tool steel, as well as on wires for thermal spraying. Our product range is rounded off by CO2-wires and coated welding rods. We are a member of the Saarstahl group, Company HistoryWire drawing at the Luisenthal location can be traced back to 1926, the year when the Saardrahtwerke GmbH was founded. Production began in November 1928 in manufacturing halls built in 1882 for a former chemical factory. Being a mere wire factory at the beginning, the works, whose location has remained unchanged, consisted of a pickling shop, an annealing plant, a wire-drawing area, a nails and pins production, a mechanics workshop and a drawing die-polishing workshop.In 1932, the production programme was extended to include the manufacture of electrode core wires and electrode core rods. During WW II and in the difficult post-war years, the company experienced a varied history.Its product range of welding consumables was continuously widened. Wires for submerged arc welding, thermal spraying and weld fillers for shielded arc welding completed the company's product programme. With the take-over and relocation of Saar-Elektroden GmbH to Luisenthal in 1958, production was extended to include the manufacture of coated welding electrodes, which, however, were discontinued in 1971.The business unit of welding consumables was separated from the group in early 2008 and since then has been doing business under the name of Schweissdraht Luisenthal GmbH
