Sri Lanka Developments Ltd. Was established in the 1961. We were a manufacturing organization. We manufactured tea chests for tea gardens of Sri Lanka for the export of "Ceylon Tea". We also manufactured all types of wire nails required for the construction and other allied industries and for the domestic use. Sri Lanka Developments Ltd was the leading importers in electrolytic tinplates for the manufacture of containers of all types.We also manufacture decorative latex balloons for children's parties, birthday parties, family functions, national and state functions and for other occasions.The tsunami that struck Sri Lanka in 2004 December, badly affected a large number of people involved in the coir industry living along the coastal belt of Sri Lanka.In 2005, Sri Lanka Developments Ltd decided to diversify the business. The company decided to concentrate in geo-textiles (coir netting) and coco peat (coir fiber pith).Our development strategy in achieving the desired results was to * outsource the production of geo textiles (coir Netting) to those tsunami effected families to improve their livelihoods and employment opportunities to enable them regain their lost enterprises devastated by the tsunami that ravaged the coastal belt of southern Sri Lanka, where these people lived throughout their lives. * Development of short and long term employment opportunities for the enterprising members of the community, preferably to promote community contracting. * Promote and facilitate small enterprises to develop better business options. * Attract and assist new comers to the coir industry to improve the business by purchasing their products and helping them to improve and upgrade the quality of the product. * To assist women entrepreneurs to develop Geo Textiles production as a domestic industry.
