Honduran Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) is a premium tropical hardwood highly regarded for its balance of beauty, stability, and workability. It typically presents a light pinkish-brown color when freshly cut, deepening over time into a rich reddish-brown with a uniform, medium texture and natural luster. The grain is generally straight, though it can occasionally display interlocked patterns or subtle ribbon figure, adding visual character to finished applications. With a density of approximately 31–37 lbs/ft³ and a Janka hardness around 800–900 lbf, it offers a reliable combination of strength and ease of machining. Honduran Mahogany dries efficiently with minimal degrade and exhibits low shrinkage, resulting in excellent dimensional stability and minimal movement in service, making it ideal for precision applications.

This species is widely appreciated for its exceptional workability, as it machines, sands, glues, and finishes with ease, making it a preferred choice for both detailed craftsmanship and large-scale production. It offers moderate to good natural durability, with resistance to decay and insects suitable for interior uses and certain protected exterior applications. Honduran Mahogany is commonly supplied in rough sawn or surfaced lumber, with thicknesses ranging from 4/4 up to 16/4 or custom specifications, available in both air-dried and kiln-dried conditions, typically reaching moisture contents of 8–12% for KD material. It is extensively used in high-end furniture, cabinetry, architectural millwork, doors, windows, and interior paneling, as well as in traditional boat building.
