For love of Country and our People
For love of Country and our People
Our love for Tea is born of our love and appreciation for all things Sri Lankan. This deep love we have for our land permeates every aspect of our business. We are committed to protecting the richness and beauty of our environment and ensuring the fullness of life for the people in our community.
We invest only in organic produce and are committed to helping the small farmers, who are the very backbone of our business, to grow sustainably. The network of small plantations that partner us follow a meticulous method of maximising produce, sans the use of chemical fertilisers. It is their dedication to maintain the natural vibrancy of the soil that warrants the premium we pay them, over and above the Fairtrade price that the industry regulates. Fairly remunerated and duly valued, and appreciated, for their efforts to stay organic, each new season sees these farmers bursting with ideas to increase their harvest organically, discovering innovative methods to minimize their carbon footprint through active erosion prevention and waste management.
All these efforts echo the ethos woven into the very fabric of our business - a commitment to ensure the well-being of all things and everyone; the protection of our planet, the sustainability of our community of partners and the delight and health of our Tea lovers.
All things Green and Beautiful
All things Green and Beautiful
Being green and being ethical is not what we do, it is who we are. In every area of our business we do our utmost to stay true to green and ethical practices. Our certifications; from organic to Fairtrade to non-GMO to a multitude of others such as BRC, ISO 22000, HACCP, Kosher and Halal; are testament to how deeply we care about the way our tea is grown and harvested.

The Knowledge Hub programs involve sessions conducted by our own Training and Development Academy, where qualified lecturers teach English Language, Computer skills and Management studies. Our senior staff conducts classes to supervisory and floor level employees on a myriad of areas including managing home finance, open book management and analyzing financial statements, organic farming, marketing, personality development and positive attitude etc etc. While it is compulsory that the senior management conducts these classes, the participants evaluate the resource persons and the results affect their annual appraisals. Hence, these classes have become very popular. The classes are scheduled well in advance, where subjects and resource persons are thoroughly discussed and well planned.
In the beginning of 2016 we launched a series of activities in our drive to make ours a “business of business people”. The first steps that are already implemented include a 100% open book management policy where information, financial and otherwise is transparent and shared to all employees during weekly huddles. This is connected to a novel incentive system where management at all levels jointly agrees on big numbers and incentives and then bonuses/incentives paid out quarterly. The budget is played like a game where people from different divisions do the budget for unrelated aspects, decided based on a lucky draw! The final and most important step of this program is an employee share option plan and that’s being handled currently.
We are Amazon, a manufacturer and marketer of value added organic tea. Our brand “English Tea Shop” is sold in over 50 countries. This premium yet affordable tea brand, retailed through natural food markets, premium department stores and upscale food service providers is highly sought by true tea aficionados.
